Fit, Safety & Care: Pet Bandanas

Safety at a glance

  • Always supervise. Only use the bandana while you’re there to watch your pet.
  • Never leave it on during sleep, crating or when your pet is alone.
  • Check the fit every time. You should be able to fit two fingers underneath.
  • Remove it straight away if your pet shows any sign of discomfort or starts chewing it.
  • Inspect before each use and replace it if it’s worn or damaged.

How do I tie the bandana so it fits securely?

  1. Roll the top of the bandana down to the desired length. (instructions are included with sale)
  2. Wrap it around your pet’s neck.
  3. Tie a flat knot at the front or side. Do not tie it at the throat.
  4. Check the fit by sliding two fingers underneath.

Fit check: The bandana should be snug but not tight. A tight bandana can restrict movement and breathing, so loosen it straight away if you can’t fit two fingers underneath.

What signs of discomfort should I watch for?

Remove the bandana and give your pet a break if you see:

  • Pawing at the bandana
  • Scratching at the neck
  • Excessive panting
  • Reluctance to move
  • Any change in posture or mood

Some pets simply don’t like wearing accessories, and that’s perfectly fine.

My pet seems bothered by it. Any tips for introducing the bandana?

Go slowly and keep it positive.

  1. Let your pet sniff and investigate the bandana first.
  2. Start with short sessions of 5 to 10 minutes while you stay with them.
  3. Offer calm praise or a small treat while they wear it.
  4. Build up the time gradually as they get comfortable.

Never force it. Low-pressure introductions work best.

Should I remove the bandana at night or when my pet is unsupervised?

Yes, always. Remove the bandana before your pet:

  • Goes to sleep
  • Is crated
  • Is left alone, even for a short time

This prevents the fabric from catching on furniture, crate bars or other objects when you’re not there to help.

How do I check whether the bandana needs replacing?

Check it before every use. Look for:

  • Fraying seams
  • Loose threads
  • Stretched fabric
  • Damaged tie ends
  • A knot that no longer holds firmly

If you see any of these, replace the bandana. A worn bandana is a safety risk.

How do I wash and care for the bandana?

Washing:

  • Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent, or
  • Machine wash on a gentle cycle in a laundry bag

Drying:

  • Lay flat or hang to air dry
  • Do not tumble dry. It can cause shrinkage or distortion, which affects the fit.

Tip: Regular washing keeps the bandana fresh .
